I have been interested in house plants from a young age however only realised this year that the number of plants I purchased over the two lockdowns was greater than any number of plants I had bought 3 years ago. Upon further research, I found that this has been a trend across the world where the horticulture industry saw an increase in demand over the pandemic and so I decided to curate an infographic that visualises the rise and trends in house plant sales in Australia during the pandemic. For the infographic, I decided to draw attention to the two subjects that stood out to me most, the demographic that had contributed to this trend over the course of the pandemic and how the nursery industry in Australia has been positively impacted by this change. Rather than making my infographic look like groups of different data sets that have been pasted on a background, I have placed the data in such a way that in most cases it appears to be part of the backdrop. This way each section of information seamlessly blends in with each other while it still being an immersive experience where the viewer is led from the top of the infographic to the bottom of it effortlessly.

The use of didactic visuals such as the whisk and sifter assist the viewer in following the steps needed to make the latte. The scale of the latte placed in the center also creates a sense of hierarchy between the main subject and the objects surrounding it. Proximity grouping is implemented by the use of an almost monochrome colour palette and the placement of all objects. This is elevated through the similarity of colours used throughout. In addition to this, the repetition of colour further emphasizes the rhythm created in this poster. Leaving the background as a solid, neutral colour also creates enough negative space to maintain focus on the main pictorial and typographic elements. In order to add to the playfulness of this infographic, a handwritten font was used in contrast with a more decorative type of font.
